WHO WE ARE
Companhia Paulista de Jiu-Jitsu, founded in 1988 by Waldomiro Perez Jr., is one of the most traditional and influential teams in the world of Jiu-Jitsu. Under Perez's leadership, the team has established itself as a global reference, known for producing not only Jiu-Jitsu and MMA champions but also outstanding instructors. Waldomiro Perez, an eighth-degree coral belt, is one of the most respected instructors in the world, with decades of experience in teaching and developing the gentle art. His contribution has been fundamental in spreading Jiu-Jitsu in São Paulo and internationally, especially through his involvement in federations and training special forces.
Eduardo de Sá Leitão, the current head coach of Companhia Paulista in Brazil, is one of the greatest successors of Perez's legacy. With firm leadership and a keen technical vision, Leitão has been responsible for keeping the team at the top, training new generations of fighters, and ensuring that Companhia Paulista remains a dominant force in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. His work extends beyond the mats, inspiring athletes and promoting the growth of the sport throughout the country.
Companhia Paulista has also trained many instructors who now lead their own renowned teams. Roberto Godoy, one of the biggest names in Jiu-Jitsu, leads G13 BJJ, while Jorge “Macaco” Patino heads the Macaco Gold Team. Other instructors, such as Fernando Lopes at Pedra 90, Andrei Andreso at Tetris, and Marco Barbosa at B9, have also been trained by Companhia Paulista, reinforcing the team's impact in shaping great talents in Jiu-Jitsu and MMA.
Over the years, Companhia Paulista de Jiu-Jitsu has also maintained a strong connection with MMA, being responsible for training legends of the sport, such as Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, BJ Penn, Michael Bisping, and Cheick Kongo, all champions in their respective UFC categories. The team is globally recognized for its ability to develop well-rounded athletes, both in Jiu-Jitsu and MMA.
With more than three decades of history, Companhia Paulista de Jiu-Jitsu continues to be a symbol of tradition, excellence, and innovation in the martial arts world. Its influence goes beyond competitions, shaping the next generation of instructors and athletes, and keeping the essence of Jiu-Jitsu alive.
